Well, that’s a nice barn ya got there

A barn and an old well? That’s all I need for a fine photo. I love the brick chimney on the building, the angle of the handle of the well, the whole works. This was a nice find, and a bit of a surprise, actually. But then again, so many of my photos are the result of a “section line surprise” that it’s almost the norm!

Cell phone pharmstead

It’s just a cell phone photo, and I think the blog chunked up the quality a bit, but it’s still a decent shot. I was standing on a dirt double-track trail which is technically a county road when I took it, and it’s a great memory.

They say the best camera is the one you have with you. In this case, I also had a drone or two with me, so and maybe even a “real” camera…but I took this shot too, nonetheless.

Windmill Week, day four

This one caught just the right light, didn’t it? I love taking pictures of these, and this one was particularly photogenic. It was a spur of the moment trip which brought me here, even though I’d been here before, and the conditions were better than I’d ever encountered at this spot.

I mark all my photo locations in my handheld GPS so I can refer to them later. This spot is a prime example of why I do this. I’ve been here on sunny days before, but there wasn’t anything particularly inspiring about this angle. But in this sunset light, however, it took on a whole new personality. It pays to track these things and come back to a certain spot when the time – and light – is right.

Windmill week

It’s been a minute, hasn’t it? I’m trying to get back into the swing of things, and what better way to attempt such a feat than to go with something I know – and, I think, I’m pretty good at: windmill photos. I’ve got a few new/recent ones, so let’s have at it. One day at a time.

Gaol

I was doing some drone work north of Bismarck-Mandan and found myself heading past Regan as the sun began to set. Naturally I popped in for a visit to the old jail, since I’ve always found this little building interesting. Besides, this is the best lighting condition I think I’ve ever had for a brief photo visit!
